Launch Party a Dazzling Affair!

Receiving rave reviews from more than 150 attendees from the building community, the Launch Party for Battle of the Buildings was a rocking success! Highlighted by an opening address by Mayor Buddy Dyer, the elite GREENworking event was held on June 22, at Orlando's beautiful City Hall. Throughout the evening, attendees heard about some the amazing advancements in sustainability occurring in Central Florida. Amongst many highlights, building owners and managers had the opportunity to meet some of the students involved in the Energy Specialist Program. At right: Images from the party.

In 2017, Commercial building owners and managers across Central Florida were invited to participate in the Central Florida Battle of the Buildings. More than 250 building were registered!

The Central Florida Battle of the Buildings was a voluntary, fun competition to help commercial building owners and managers across Central Florida reduce energy and water consumption at their facility.  The competition ran from July 1 through December 31, 2017.

The EPA ENERGY STAR Program was a partner in the Central Florida Battle of the Buildings competition. All participants will receive recognition for reducing energy, water and waste in their buildings from the EPA. Awards will be given for the greatest reduction in the 16 categories listed below and left during the USGBC Central Florida LEEDership Awards Program on April 14.  Additional awards will be given for "Highest Portfolio Manager Score" and "Best Overall" (the Best Overall category will be for those participants that are able to track waste reduction).

All information was submitted and tracked through the EPA's free ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager tracking software. All information shared as part of the Battle was confidential and will not be publicly shared. Central Florida participant regions for the Battle of the Buildings were Orange, Seminole, Volusia, Osceola, and Polk Counties.

"Those competing in BOTB 2017 gained a better understanding of how their building consumes resources. The Battle clearly illustrated how to cut costs, grow stronger, and be recognized as an energy-saving business."  Michelle Leigh, Chair
