Our Role

The role of the USGBC Florida Chapter's policy advancement and advocacy initiatives is to build public awareness of and demand for high-performance green buildings, as well as support legislative initiatives that specify green building standards (including the LEED rating system) at local, county and State levels and for all types of buildings including schools and factories. If you are interested in helping raise awareness about the importance of green building and helping implement change in local and state government policy through advocacy efforts, contact Sarah Boren, Director of Policy and Programs for USGBC Florida.

Overview & Statistics

Green building, and LEED in particular, is helping drive tremendous economic and environmental benefits. In Florida, we have a thriving green building community, which includes:

  • 500 organizations are either headquartered or have offices in Florida who are members of USGBC. These companies employ more than a half a million people, and gross more than $7 billion in annual revenue.
  • 11,000+ people have earned a LEED professional credential in Florida, helping them to compete for work in the 21st Century economy.
  • More than 115 million square feet of building space is Certified to LEED in Florida.
  • The Florida marketplace is increasingly demanding better, greener real estate through LEED.

Thank You

Thanks to all USGBC Florida Chapter members and volunteers working hard to advance the green-building conversation in their local community and city through concentrated and focused advocacy activity.
