This is a self-reporting series. You will receive a certificate of attendance yet you need to self-report your own continuing education credits to GBCI, etc.

In 2014, USGBC acquired PEER, or Performance Excellence in Electricity Renewal - a dynamic, adaptive rating process designed to measure and improve sustainable power system performance. PEER helps project teams deliver best-in-class electricity supply performance that reduces cost, increases productivity, mitigates risks, and leverages customer resources. 

PEER evaluates power generation, transmission, and distribution systems through the lens of the customer across desired outcomes that include efficiency, quality, reliability, resiliency, and the environment. Modeled after LEED, PEER is the driving force behind the U.S. Green Building Council’s vision to transform the way power systems are designed, operated, and evaluated. PEER takes a comprehensive look at power system performance by setting standards and evaluating performance across four outcome categories: Reliability & Resiliency, Energy Efficiency & Environment, Operational Effectiveness, and Customer Contribution. 

This session will provide an overview of the PEER rating system, explain the PEER certification process, and present case studies of recently certified projects.

Learning Objectives

  • List the four PEER credit categories and explain the intent of each and their relationship with LEED BD+C, O+M, and ND.
  • Understand how the PEER rating system can transform the way power systems are designed, operated, and evaluated.
  • Explain how the benefits of utilizing the PEER rating system complement the intent of LEED, and how it fits into the certification process of a LEED project (or picks up where the certification process leaves off).
  • Discuss the relationship between LEED & PEER and understand the LEED Pilot Credit: Power Supply Performance Index.
