JOIN US!  Give Back to OUR Community!  Bring Friends and Family!  And then ... celebrate!

In 2013, the Miami Branch of the USGBC and the City of Miami Beach combined forces. The City continued to host their Family Service Day events at North Shore Open Space Park, and USGBC Miami led the effort to bring these projects into the schools to both grow the collective effort and bring a stronger sense of sustainability into the initiative. Over the years, that partnership has been able to provide schools such as Biscayne Elementary, Miami Beach Senior High School, and the Feinberg-Fisher K-8 campus beautification projects through tree plantings, native butterfly gardens, organic vegetable gardens, and beautifully decorated raised planter beds.

2016 Service Project Particulars -- Two Needs at the Feinberg-Fisher K-8 Center:

  • Lighting Olympics -- Focus:  In this retrofit marathon, volunteers will be replacing light bulbs in three special-needs classrooms and participating in fun activities and games tied to LED lights. This project will be able to support 60 volunteers -- 30 young volunteers (ages 13-17) and 30 adult volunteers (ages 18+).
  • Sensory Garden -- Focus:  Large tractor tires in the garden to be filled with soil and native plants with "colors, textures and smells", helping special-needs students explore the world. This project will be able to support 20 volunteers, ages 14+ (or middle-schoolers if accompanied by an adult).

Important Notes!

Registration closes at 9:00 AM ON THURSDAY!

Prepare according to your anticipated work (e.g., gloves, work/outside shoes, comfortable clothing, sunscreen).

After we finish our work, join us to celebrate our efforts and our community!

The celebration for all of the Miami Beach Family Service Day projects will take place at North Shore Open Space Park (85th Street and Collins Avenue), beginning at noon. Various community organizations will be at the Park, and Shake Shack will be there feeding everyone for the day.  There is metered street parking available, but attendees are encouraged to carpool.
