In 2013, three USGBCl North Florida members -- Glen Wieger, Carrie-Lynn Black and Hava Villavarde -- met in San Marco to discuss ways to help "move the green needle" in Jacksonville. They developed an idea for a festival that brings local "green" organizations and businesses together in one place with all of the amenities that make any festival great -- community, adult beverages and food!
In order to emphasize the local focus of the festival, which first took place at Aardwolf Brewing Company, they thought of the prominent lions in the San Marco Square which represent the area. Hence, the name of the festival was born- The Green Lion Festival.
Green Lion Festival is a festival that seeks to promote and elevate the awareness of green-focused businesses and organizations in Jacksonville. We aspire to be a green and eco-friendly festival while reaching out to the community.
